PhilHealth Covers Leptospirosis Victims Hospitalization

The Philippines hospitals are now being flocked by a lot of patients stricken by this disease caught from a rat.

It is a rare and very severe kind of a bacterial infection that is transmitted to humans of a contaminated water which has animal urine in contact with any open wounds, breaks in the skins, in our eyes or even the mucous membrane.

The symptoms of this disease are jaundice or having yellow skin or yellow eyes, a high fever, chills, headache, vomiting, muscle pains, abdominal pain, rashes and diarrhea. There is also a big tendency of damaging your liver and kidneys.

Since the last typhoon that hit Philippines which left most of the people in Manila and its provinces in flood in the later event ignited Leptospirosis. For quite sometime now local news have been reporting of the poor condition this that Leptospirosis patients are experiencing in most public hospitals just to be cured.

Patients are sharing a space in one bed or even situated in chairs which is making this a struggle of wellness and also proper hygiene. Since the rise of victims of Leptospirosis are soaring high from the later record the other year as of now it rises of 62% higher.

I remember one company on the start of the first hospitalization of some victims even had the price for this disease number more than 100% of its price before which resulted of the President Pnoy to be alarmed.

Though the good news for people who were in the flood zone area is that Phil Health is covering the payment of this Leptospirosis victims. Department of Health disclosed this great news especially to people who does not have the capacity to pay for hospitalization which goes to non members of Phil Health.

It was further stated on a statement issued by DOH that "PhilHealth circular 39 series of 2012 non-members living in flood-stricken areas shall be accorded the benefits of a PhilHealth-sponsored program member or beneficiary". Non-members less than 21 years of age and parents whom are non members of Phil Health will benefit this program.

DOH further explained, “Being automatically covered as PhilHealth Sponsored program members mean that they shall not be required to pay premiums and that they shall be considered members for the period from August 1, 2012 to July 31, 2013, with a number card. This privilege shall be applicable for all admissions starting 7 August to the end of this month,”.

For me this is a very good charitable work and I hope that every government agencies will do things like this since it will make us the people feel important and recognize as human being with help from government. It is a very important move that I am commending since I too have been in a situation where in you loose hope when your funds are not enough to help you survive.
