Celebrating Philippines 114th Independence Day

Today we celebrate the most important event which marks a significant part of our history, The Philippines Independence Day! It is now the 114th celebration since President Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed our independence.

The Independence of the Philippines was acknowledged by the United States of America on July 4, 1946. however the president of the Philippines at that point (Diosdado Macapagal) modified the proclamation date back to June 12, since that was the true date of when the Philippines became independent by the work of Emilio Aguinaldo.

June 12 is listed as a daily holiday throughout the country this 2012 by virtue of Aquino’s Proclamation 295. According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), even though an employee opts to not head to work on June 12, he/she can still get 100 percent of his/her regular pay for the day. Meanwhile, people who can render overtime work on June 12 stand to urge twice their regular pay for the said day (or what we call a double pay).

As for students it is a very sought for day as there is no class and they are free to enjoy the day. Though for most of us it is another day to gather and be with our family and loved ones

Charice Pempengco To Judge X Factor Philippines

Born on May 10, 1992 is Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco or better known by most of us as Charice Pempengco. A Filipina singer who rose to stardom because of her Youtube song when she guested a Korean TV show way back from a fan whom was so fascinated with her outstanding voice. Luck came across her and was noted by respected and known celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, David Letterman, Ellen De Genere, Celine Dion and much more. Charice having been the first Asian singer who made it to Top 10 of Billboard 200.

Her famous songs like Pyramid with singer Iyaz, Before it Explodes, One Day and Note to God are the best of what I have heard of her aside from the few songs she sung herself from her favorite singers. This is a tribute to her unrivaled passion for singing and her being a down to earth person.

She also made it as a guest starring to a role in one of America's top TV series Glee. Her role as Sunshine Corazon was very Filipino and made millions of Filipino's so proud of her. She also got a stint in the movie "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Sequel", as a rival singer of the Chipmunks in the movie.

Her latest gig that will be done in the Philippines on one of the big broadcasting network ABS-CBN would be one of the judge mentors to the franchise "X-Factor" which will air on June.
